I had not bought a portable electric air compressor for many years - because of bad experiences I had with them. They usually would consist of a lightweight, underpowered pump, inside a large plastic housing intended to make it look more powerful than it really was. There is nothing pretentious about the PowerSmith MLAI12C 12 Volt portable air inflator, but the design makes for a great, compact unit which delivers what it says. The quick disconnect fittings worked very well, with no leaks whatsoever when filling. The gauge also works perfectly, showing its reading instantly when the motor stops.

As with the other items in this 12 Volt line of tools, the motor is fairly powerful. This combined with the excellent life of their Lithium-Ion battery (sold separately) makes for a winner in my book - I am pleased with my purchase, and I now own almost all the tools in this series. I find it EXTREMELY convenient to have an entire line of compact 12 Volt power tools at my disposal, all of which use the same battery pack. And I find that I am using these tools much more than other tools I have owned because of the convenience of "no cord" and always having a battery pack which works.

Caveat: if you need a heavy duty pump to fill several uninflated auto tires at one time, it's quite likely you will be disappointed with the battery life and the capacity of this unit. But I needed it for checking and "topping off" my car tires, or completely filling bike or golf cart or mower type tires. For this usage, this is a fast, well designed unit which I highly recommend.

'Purchased one of these devices along with two Lithium-Ion battery packs. Everything worked as advertised right out of the packaging, with a qualifying word about car tires. A single battery pack required recharging after adding a total of 15 PSI to four medium car tires. Might be OK for topping off a car tire periodically, but probably not the best inflator for a flat tire. The built-in pressure gauge is handy, and a single charge was sufficient to inflate two nearly-flat 26-inch bike tires, as well as filling several basketballs.

It seemed like a good buy,only $29 for a rechargeable Lithium-ion powered tire compressor. I read the AMAZON ad several times before commiting to buy. When I received the compressor I was surprised to find no battery or charger. I checked on line and found the battery and charger was available as a separate purchase (not so stated in the original ad). The bottom line is it would cost me an additional $49 to make the compressor functional.

I was suckered in by the original ad which did not state that the compressor would not function w/o an additional purchase.
